Holly Hunt Los Angeles

When in Art School instructors will reiterate time and time again the importance of internships. Internships give you first-hand experience in the field providing you valuable skills and knowledge. Its common for interior design students to have one of their first internships at a showroom. A showroom is a great place to begin because it sets a foundation for product knowledge and customer service. Plus, the showroom is a great place to learn about trends and who are the big players in the industry. For Summer 2011 I interned at the Holly Hunt Los Angeles Showroom. Holly Hunt is an ideal example of a great showroom to work for because of Holly Hunt's legacy and presence in the design industry, but also because HH is a front runner in finding new talent and trends. I wanted to experience the design world in Los Angeles first hand and HH was an ideal place to start. HH allowed me to meet experience interior designers and the up and coming talent. For example, I'm sure you have heard the name Jeffrey Alan Marks, or maybe you've watched a little show called Million Dollar Decorator on BravoTV, well I helped Mr. Marks decide on wallpaper samples for a project. Another well-known interior designer included Oliver M. Furth who I spoke with consistently at the HH showroom and happened to bump into at Blackman Cruz. Great Store!

The tasks that I would complete at HH showroom were numerous from pulling samples, tear sheets for clients, assisting the sales team, to client filing organization. The time I spent at HH was invaluable and I am proud to say that I was intern at Holly Hunt Los Angeles. Finally, one of the tasks the showroom manger asked me to complete (and you will see below) was to layout samples in 'groupings' and in these 'groupings' I had to include fabric samples from different lines. The intention was to spark interest in the product and generate inspiration and interest for the clients when they are exploring the showroom.
